Abstract

God's providence is understood as God's providence for man and is defined narrowly as only relating to physical or material care. This is due to the prosperity theology that develops in the life of the church today. The Church tends to understand that the evidence of God's providence is material abundance and healing from sickness. The Bible records forms of God's providence, including the early church. The early church referred to believers in the 1st and 2nd centuries who were led by the apostles and lived a life that adhered to the teachings of Jesus Christ? This study uses qualitative research methods with the type of library research or library research. Based on the results of the research and discussion, the researcher found that God's providence is not only related to material or physical things but also to spiritual or inner things. The early church experienced great suffering and persecution in the first century. They were considered enemies of the Roman empire because they had faith in Jesus Christ. As a result, they were slandered and had to endure severe persecution. However, God's providence persists in their lives despite persecution. This is evidenced by the persecution they experienced, it strengthened their faith and continued to grow both in quality and quantity. God's providence also occurred in the spiritual life of the early church which was marked by growing worship, sacrament service, and fasting prayer. In addition, God's providence also occurs in the orthopraxy of the early church which can be seen in the practice of their lives through fellowship and mutual solidarity, evangelism, obedience to the government, holy life, and diakon ministry.
